The child should be guided by parents in making a choice in the right direction but should not be coerced into it.
After all its the child who has to carry on with it all his life.He should feel happy doing what he wants to do.Some times children dream very high without realising their capacity to do that particular course and land up achieving low.This is where parents come in.
The child’s aptitude is to be taken care off. I know of a girl who was high achiever in secondary school and opted for science stream.But the moment she stepped in to chemistry Lab,She had severe Asthama attack.Both the parents and the child insisted on continuing in science stream despite intensive counseling.A brilliant child thus became a low achiever.
We have a social stigma attached to certain professions.That is a big mind block.We need to shed this.It is certainly better to excel in any feild rather than being a low performer in a highly sought after profession.
